Back from Auckland

Back in Christchurch, discovering the effects of last Saturday night's big hail storm - dented car roof and bits of plastic spouting have been hail-gunned, leaves and small branches everywhere, garden furniture blasted.

Auckland photos are here.

Auckland

Posting from Auckland on Anzac Day, in the middle of a 5-day break. We flew up on Friday morning and have, so far;
- Checked out Queen Street shopping and gone out to Albany
- Walked around the Viaduct Basin and the waterfront
- Taken a ferry to Waiheke for the day, including a walk to the gun emplacements at Stony Batter

Today we're going out to Muriwai to look at gannets, and explore some of the West Auckland area - maybe including the Helensville hot pools.

We return to Christchurch on Wednesday morning.

More on Blogs

I'm still having problems with incorporating links in postings, so I'll try again. Here is a link to Educause.

Starting Again

Here I am in Wellington, at a workshop on blogging - and the first thing we do is create a blog at blogger.com! I skipped that step and went straight to editing this blog, once I remembered my usercode and password. We are looking at blogs as an e-learning tool, and the first thing we were shown was an interesting Educause article about this, by Stephen Downes.

Begin here

Here begins my blog - I am starting this because my previous private website, http://www.inet.net.nz/~gregor/ may soon disappear. I have used iNet as my ISP since 1999, but it is probable that my job will be paying for an ADSL connection and in that case I'll lose my website.

I have already switched all my email to Gmail, which is wonderful - it is just as easy to use as a stand alone pop3 mail client, and a lot less virus prone - plus it's totally portable.

I'll see how this looks, then think about adding some other material. I take lots of photos, so I'll be interested to see how that works. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure what the address of this blog is, I hope I can find it on the web!
